The Flemish Minister of Interior Affairs wants to suspend the recognition of three mosques linked to Diyanet, the Turkish administration for religious affairs. Reason given: foreign interference.

On Tuesday, the Flemish Minister of Interior Affairs himself announced that he had opened a procedure for the suspension of three recognized mosques linked to the Turkish Diyanet because of the foreign interference observed there, reports Belgian. This measure follows the conclusions of a control carried out by the Flemish information and screening service and presented behind closed doors to the Flemish parliament by the said service, representatives of OCAM and State Security. The report mentions infringements – relating essentially to the prohibition of foreign influence – to the Flemish decree on the recognition of local places of worship observed at the twelve recognized mosques of the Diyanet.

The mosques concerned have until November 15 to put themselves in order. A hearing of the representatives of the three mosques under suspension is planned, in Lommel, Aalst and Heusden-Zolder. A final decision from the minister is expected next month. Finally, a warning was sent to the other nine mosques.
