Fleming recounted a harrowing experience, stating, “We did have missiles intercepted over our house, and it’s scary, to try to tell your children, to try to explain the situation.”
Despite the unsettling events, Fleming and other travellers reported a surprising lack of panic in Dubai. “As much as it was scary, they handled it so well… there was no chaos,” she said. Louise Kyle, similarly delayed in Dubai while travelling from Edinburgh, observed a similar sense of calm, noting that some people continued their routines even as missile threat alarms sounded. “Every hour or so the alarms were going off… and then I looked out my window and there were people sunbathing at the beachside below me.”
Emirates is also resuming service to Christchurch, with flight EK 412 scheduled to arrive via Sydney just after 2:00 pm local time. This expanded schedule signifies a broader restoration of connectivity for New Zealanders travelling to and from the Middle East and Europe.
