Flood - AUSTRIA HELPS AUSTRIA: ORF initiative starts relief campaign

ORF focus day on August 7th on radio, television, online and the state studios

Vienna (OTS) – Many regions in southern Austria, especially in Carinthia and Styria, have been affected by the persistent severe storms of the past few days. Helpers are in constant use, houses had to be evacuated, many families are faced with the ruins of their existence. The ORF initiative AUSTRIA HELPS AUSTRIA together with its partner organizations (Austrian Red Cross, Caritas, Diakonie, Hilfswerk and Volkshilfe) started the relief campaign “Floods – Austria helps Austria”. The people of Austria are asked to help in solidarity.

From now on, donations will be advertised on TV, radio and online. On Monday, August 7th, 2023, the ORF will focus on the flood crisis situation in southern Austria in all its media with a thematic focus day.

ORF Director General Roland Weißmann: “The situation is difficult and requires quick help. For this reason, the ORF supports the aid campaign of ÖSTERREICH HEILFT ÖSTERREICH in all its media on radio, television, online and the state studios. My thanks go to everyone who contributes to the fact that help can be provided quickly and efficiently!”

Peter Kaiser, Deputy Secretary General of the Austrian Red Cross: “Every donation, no matter how small, can make a significant difference. It can help rebuild a devastated home, replace necessary household appliances, or just meet everyday needs.”

Pius Strobl, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at the ORF: “In the event of flooding and destruction on this scale, rapid and unbureaucratic help is what is needed above all. The donations collected through ÖSTERREICH HIFLT ÖSTERREICH help those people who urgently need it. And very important – the work of the aid organizations can also be made easier. We therefore ask the Austrians for their solidarity with their fellow citizens in the affected regions.”

AUSTRIA HIFLT AUSTRIA is an initiative of the ORF together with Austria’s leading aid organizations and was launched in 2020 in response to the Corona crisis. Even in the current and future domestic crisis and disaster times, people in Austria are supported with the help of donors.
