Kottayam ∙ Due to heavy rains, many families were in distress due to flooding in Chemlam, Kanjiram, Tiruwarp and Kummanam areas. 9 relief camps opened. There was no traffic disruption on the Kumarakam road near the three corners. Meenachilar and its tributaries are overflowing. Water levels may rise further as heavy rains continue. The outer bund of the paddocks is overflowing and subject to flooding.

In Vaikom taluk, the waterlogged areas were severe in Vishkekara, Vazhamana of Udayanapuram panchayat, Iyerkulangara of Vaikom municipality, Mannathanam and Cherikal in TVpuram panchayat, Korikal and Pazampatti of Thalayolaparam panchayat. The reason for this is the delay in allowing the rain water to flow. In Etumanur Perur, the protection wall of the villa collapsed on top of the house which was 12 feet deep. The wall and windows were broken. Perur fell on top of Mini’s house in Mannamala. At the time of the accident, 4 people were in the house but escaped.

15 houses were flooded in Arpukara Pudusherry Kanicherry area. The reason is that the land has overflowed from Suryakawala to Maniaparam. More than 2000 acres of rice cultivation in Vechur, Thalayazham and TV Puram panchayats were flooded. Although pumping is done here, the lack of strength of the outer bund, the rising water level in Muvattupuzhayar and Kariyar and continuous rains are causing concern to the farmers. Houses were flooded in the western region of Kattururthi panchayat. A relief camp was opened at Ayamkudi LP School.

In Changanassery area, water has started entering some houses in Kurichi panchayat. The water level in Manimala, Pampa and Azuta rivers is below the caution warning. The water level remains as low as four feet below the Mundakkayam causeway bridge. A tree fell at Pudupally Parakkakalkadu and traffic was disrupted. The electric pole was also broken.
