Florida is about to have one ley that will allow its residents to carry armas without permission, according to statements by the president of the House of Representatives of that state, Paul Renner
The Republican announced Monday that the House is “ready” to approve a bill promoted by the governor in March, Ron DeSantisto carry a firearm without a permit, according to an agency report EFE about the legislator’s press conference.
“Florida led the nation in allowing concealed carry, and that extends today as we eliminate the government’s permission slip to exercise a constitutional right,” said Renner, who is counting on the advantage of Republican control of the state legislature to have enough votes for this bill to go ahead, introduced in April 2022 by Governor Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis also promised that this law would take effect before the end of his term as governor of that entity.
“I can’t tell you if it will be next week or six months, but I can tell you that before I stop being governor, we will sign that,” DeSantis said in early May 2022.
Until now, in the state of Florida you must obtain a permit to be able to carry weapons in public.
According to data published in the local press, in that entity 2.5 million people have this permit, which is obtained after passing a weapons training course and passing a proficiency test.
For years, gun rights advocates have been lobbying for Florida to be a constitutional state and for compliance with the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, which protects the right of the American people to keep and bear arms.
But this initiative has failed for two decades to convince Republican leaders in Tallahassee to lift one of the few limitations on gun ownership in Florida.
This initiative by the governor of Florida is in addition to others of a conservative nature that he has promoted during 2022, the year in which DeSantis achieved a second term.
In addition to this possible law, the governor promoted a new abortion law to prohibit voluntary terminations of pregnancy after 15 weeks, in addition to legislation restricting how schools and businesses can discuss race and gender identity and a new electoral map that, according to its detractors, favors the Republicans.
In the United States there are 25 states that have approved the so-called constitutional carrying of weapons, after the approval in Georgia of a law that allows it.
Data from the National Rifle Association (NRA), which has promoted this measure for 30 years, indicates that carrying weapons in public without permission is also allowed in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
