Moscow. May, 23rd. INTERFAX.RU – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday will officially announce his entry into the race for the presidency, informs The Associated Press, citing sources.
According to them, DeSantis will make the relevant statement during an online event with the participation of Twitter owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Musk himself said on Tuesday that “a rather important announcement” should be expected on Wednesday.
The online meeting is scheduled to take place on May 24 on Twitter Spaces at 18:00 (03:00 Moscow time).
According to a number of American media, DeSantis is one of the main rivals of the 45th US President Donald Trump in the primaries of the Republican Party. However, according to a recent study by Morning Consult, Trump maintains a significant lead and, if nothing changes, will easily defeat the governor of Florida.
Eight people have already put forward their candidacies from the Republican Party. Among them are Trump, former US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, businessmen Perry Johnson, Vivek Ramaswami, Ryan Binkley, radio host Larry Elder and Senator Tim Scott.
