Florida Lottery Winner Claims Massive $783.3 Million Jackpot: All You Need to Know

The winning numbers were 13, 19, 20, 32, 33 and 14 on the yellow ball.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Publix Super Market on Atlantic Boulevard in Neptune Beach, Florida, local lottery officials said.

The cash payment option is estimated at $783.3 million, the lottery said.

Before Tuesday’s draw there had been 31 rounds in a row since the last time someone won the top prize, on April 18. That allowed the jackpot to grow to become the third largest in US history.

Mega Millions winners are very few thanks to the slim odds of winning the grand prize, one in 302.6 million.

The winner would receive a payment of 1,580 million dollars if he opts for an annual fee spread over 30 years. But people tend to prefer a single payment, which in this case is estimated at about $783.3 million.

The amount is subject to federal income tax. Many states also tax lottery winnings.

Fourth time a jackpot-winning ticket has been sold in Florida

It’s the fourth time a jackpot-winning ticket has been sold in Florida; two previous prizes were shared with other states, most recently a $502 million prize split with California on October 14.

Pending final sales reconciliations across the 47 participating lotteries, the Tuesday night jackpot is expected to set a new record for the game, surpassing the previous record of $1.537 billion. That grand prize was won in South Carolina on October 23, 2018.

During the game, 43.7 million winning tickets were recorded at all levels, including 69 second-tier prizes of $1 million or more, won in 28 different jurisdictions from coast to coast: Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

And 7,056,452 winning tickets at all other prize levels. Seven tickets matched all five white balls to win the game’s second-tier prize. Two, sold in Florida and North Carolina, are worth $2 million each, because they included the optional Megaplier. The other five Match 5 tickets win the standard second-tier prize; they were sold in California, Pennsylvania, Texas (two), and West Virginia.

“Congratulations to the Florida Lottery for selling a winning jackpot ticket in Tuesday’s $1.58 billion Mega Millions drawing,” said Gretchen Corbin, Georgia Lottery President and CEO, Principal Director of Mega Millions Consortium.

“We congratulate our newest jackpot winner, as well as the more than 43.7 million winners at all prize levels throughout this jackpot run. We also celebrate the funds generated by the many good causes supported by our participating lotteries.”

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington DC, and the US Virgin Islands. The jackpot for the next drawing on Friday, August 11 is reset to its current starting value of $20 million ($9.9 million cash).
