Florida Panthers forward William Lockwood had the bad idea of physically attacking goalie Marc-André Fleury and his Minnesota Wild teammates quickly came to his defense.
The Quebecer was trying to control a puck behind his net early in the first period during Friday night’s game at the BB&T Center, when Lockwood came at full speed and knocked him off balance. Fleury fell on the ice, a little stunned.

Meanwhile, three Wild players charged his attacker and defender Zach Bogosian had time to throw a few good punches before the officials got involved. Even Fleury came to take his turn in the melee, while keeping his distance.

Lockwood, who is not known as a fighter, had to defend himself in single combat against Brandon Duhaime a few minutes later and he was no match at all. The 25-year-old American collapsed violently on the ice and his opponent seemed to regret having thrown away the gloves with him.
The referees were quite busy during this first third, handing out a total of 28 penalty minutes. Marcus Foligno and Jonah Gadjovich also engaged the fight midway through the engagement.
