Storms, hail fall and even tornadoes affected Florida this Thursday. The central zone of the state received the impact of these meteorological phenomena due to the proximity of a frontal system with slow movement.

Alerts had been issued yesterday for several counties, due to strong winds and rain, electric shocks and hail. The forecasts came true, with some sites reporting hail the size of a golf ball.

However, the worst scenario resulted after the formation of three tornadoes. The National Weather Service in Tallahassee reported the first of these phenomena around 2:55 pm, southwest of Hosford.

Shortly thereafter, at 3:07 p.m., a second tornado was reported in the vicinity of Lynn Haven. The third tornado touched down in the Apalachicola National Forest at 4:23 p.m. in Wakulla County.

Finally, several witnesses witnessed the formation of a waterspout in Panama City Beach, in the Gulf of Mexico.

Tornado Damage in Florida

The winds associated with the storms and tornadoes that occurred this Thursday in Florida left numerous damages. Among them are reported fallen trees and power lines, as well as other damaged structures. Dozens of houses were partially affected.

It transpired that much of Liberty County was left without power after the storms. Meanwhile, damages are being assessed in other locations. The main provider of this service in the area, Talquin Electric Cooperative, reported that the faults would be fixed as soon as possible.

The zone of instability remains with little movement over Florida. Therefore, more storms are expected until Saturday. The rain forecast for that day is 60%. By Sunday it will decrease to 40%.

The authorities recommend staying in protected places in the presence of this type of meteorological event. If necessary, seek shelter immediately.
