For the third time in ten years, a gulf has opened up in Seffner, Florida. The first time this was deadly for Jeff Bush.

Since 2013, a hole has opened up again and again in the American settlement area of Seffner.
Since Monday it has been gaping in the ground for the third time and has to be filled in again.
It is not a danger to the surrounding houses, and the area is also cordoned off.
Hillsborough County officials were called to a giant hole in Seffner, Florida, early Monday afternoon. This is currently in an area that is closed to the public and, according to Bay News 9, reaches a depth of around five meters, as reported by the Economic Times, among others. It is already the third timethat the hole has opened in the same place. Authorities told ABC Action News that no homes in the area were in danger and people could stay there. In the next few days, the hole is to be filled up with water and gravel.
Jeff Bush suddenly disappeared
A crater in the bedroom swallowed the then 36-year-old Jeff Bush in 2013. Rescue workers searched for the man all night but received no sign of life. Family members in the same house were alerted by loud crashes and screams. Bush’s brother was the first to get into the victim’s bedroom: “I turned on the light and all I saw was this big hole,” he told CNN at the time.
He jumped into the crater and dug for the missing person with a shovel until rescue workers arrived. “I know in my heart that he is dead, but I want to wait here,” said Bush’s brother.
Hiccups as a constant problem
According to the Florida Environmental Protection Agency, water leaks are a constant problem in the state. Most of Florida’s subsoil consists of limestone, which is eaten away over time by acidic groundwater, creating cavities. The area around the village of Seffner is also called Schluckloch-Allee. This is where two-thirds of all hiccup-related insurance claims in Florida come from.
