Yesterday, Flydubai announced its plans to establish an aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in the Dubai South region, with a total value of $190 million (about 700 million dirhams), noting that it is expected to open in 2026.
The announcement of the new facility came during a press conference on the sidelines of the Dubai Air Show, in the presence of the CEO of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South, Khalifa Al Zaffin, the Executive Director of the Mohammed bin Rashid Aviation Project, Tahnoun Saif, and the CEO of Flydubai, Ghaith Al Ghaith.
The foundation stone will be laid and construction work will begin next year, while construction work is expected to be completed by the last quarter of 2026.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Flydubai, said: “We are proud to announce Flydubai’s plans to establish an advanced aircraft repair and maintenance facility in Dubai South. This achievement reaffirms our commitment to operational excellence, here in an environment Convenient vitality in (Dubai South).
His Highness added, “This project will give Flydubai greater flexibility in maintenance operations, as it continues to develop its fleet and capabilities in the future.”
For his part, Al Zaffin said: “The new facility announced by (Flydubai) in (Dubai South) reflects the extent of our commitment to strengthening the integrated system that contributes to the growth and sustainability of the aviation industry. This partnership confirms Dubai’s position as a global aviation center and enhances our common vision of… Providing world-class aviation services to our partners.” In turn, Al Ghaith said, “Dubai has emerged as a thriving aviation hub, promoting communication, innovation, growth, and setting standards for the global aviation industry,” adding: “We are setting out and building on the achievements achieved by Dubai, and we are proud to announce the maintenance, repair, and renewal plans that represent a new chapter in our journey.”
He stressed that “Flydubai continues to invest in its employees and build solid foundations for the continuation of the growth process within its pivotal role in supporting Dubai’s economic vision, especially the aviation industry.”
Reducing operational costs
Flydubai Chief Operating Officer, Mick Hills, said: “When we start operating the maintenance, repair and renewal facility in 2026, this facility in the Dubai South region will bring us significant reductions in operational costs.” He added, “The presence of our maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in the country will ensure the speedy completion of repair and maintenance of our fleet’s aircraft, while adhering to the highest quality standards.”
