Focus in New York on the dynamics of development in the southern provinces

The president of the Municipality of Smara, Moulay Brahim Charif highlighted in New York the dynamics of all-out reforms that the southern provinces are experiencing, thanks to the New Development Model and the major project of advanced regionalization.

Speaking before the 4th Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, Charif cited the case of the city of Smara which now measures up to large agglomerations in terms of urban planning and in terms of infrastructure, road connectivity networks and air, water and electricity supply, in addition to modern means of communication.

These large-scale projects have been carried out by the Sahrawis themselves, through their elected representatives, within the framework of a partnership with all the bodies of civil society which are in turn represented by hundreds of associations which operate freely in different fields, he added.

He also noted that the massive participation of the population of the Moroccan Sahara in the electoral process, the highest in the Kingdom, indicates an unfailing attachment to their Moroccanness and to national institutions, headed by the Alaouite Throne, to which the populations of the Sahara have been bound by the pact of allegiance (Beia) for centuries.

Charif also expressed the full support of the Sahrawis and the populations of the province of Smara for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco to find a political solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara, stressing that this initiative enjoys support of the international community and in the Security Council, which it has described as serious and credible in all its resolutions.

The speaker also denounced the fact that Algeria, the host country of the Tindouf camps, persists in prolonging the suffering of the populations sequestered in these camps while the separatist leaders are living a luxurious lifestyle in villas. air-conditioned in Algerian towns, far from the Calvary of Tindouf.
