This is the last major test for Europe’s main hope for space. This Thursday at 9:10 p.m., the Ariane 6 rocket is carrying out its last complete firing test in Kourou (Guyana). The launcher’s Vulcain 2.1 engines will be pushed to full power to simulate the conditions of a real takeoff. Nearly 150 tonnes of liquid oxygen and hydrogen will be burned for eight minutes. You can follow the test on the video below or in clicking here.

While Ariane 5 took off for the last time last July, technical problems with Ariane 6 have long delayed the first flight of the future launcher for which ArianeGroup is the prime contractor. The inaugural flight might take place in 2024, approximately four years late. At the beginning of November, France still reached an agreement with Germany and Italy to guarantee financing for the next 42 launches of the rocket planned until 2030.
