The North Texas Food Bank is currently accepting donations of nonperishable food items as demand for assistance continues to rise, according to officials.
The organization is specifically requesting peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables (low-sodium preferred), canned tuna and chicken, shelf-stable milk, and trail mix. Donations of these items are particularly helpful in addressing immediate nutritional needs within the community. The Food Bank notes that items should not be in glass containers.
March is designated as Nutrition Month by the North Texas Food Bank, with a focus on collecting canned proteins, low-sugar nut butters, and whole grains. This aligns with a broader, monthly focus on specific food items intended to encourage targeted donations during food drives.
Feeding America, a nationwide network of food banks, reports increasing demand for food assistance alongside rising prices, emphasizing the critical need for donations. Individuals and companies are encouraged to support local food banks through food donations, with options including individual contributions, food industry donations, and organized food drives.
Whereas canned foods remain a valuable donation, some organizations, including Effortless Donation PickUp, offer convenient pickup services for those unable to drop off items directly. Feeding America also provides resources for hosting virtual food drives to collect funds for the network.
The North Texas Food Bank is actively promoting its donation efforts, aiming to provide meals for children, families, and seniors facing food insecurity. The organization’s “Food Item of the Month” program highlights specific needs, with November focused on peanut butter and December on stone fruits like apples and pears.
According to the North Texas Food Bank, upcoming monthly themes include Winter Warmer Month in January (whole grains and legumes), Canned Goods Month in February, and Garden Month in April (low-sodium canned vegetables and fruit in 100% juice or light syrup).
