Food Poisoning Outbreak in Lebanon: Ministry Takes Action to Ensure Public Health and Safety

The Information Office of the Ministry of Public Health announced, “The health prevention teams investigated more than thirty people with food poisoning after they ate meals in more than one tourist place in Lebanon. After confirming the source of the poisoning, a decision was issued by the Minister of Public Health, Firas Al-Abyad, to precautionally close a restaurant in the city of Zahle, (according to Resolution No. 1/1107 of 2022 related to taking special measures in the event of food poisoning), until all the scientific results that the ministry will include in an integrated report are issued in a timely manner. In addition to the need for the restaurant to take the necessary measures to correct its mistakes and ensure the safety of food in it.

And he indicated in a statement, that “after news circulated about the transfer of dozens of poisoning cases to Ragheb Harb Hospital in Nabatiyeh, contacts were made with hospital officials, who denied the validity of this news completely and completely.” In its statement, the ministry called on citizens to “communicate with it and inform it of any case of food poisoning, as well as verify from a second party the validity of the news before publishing it and creating confusion, which delays the response of the ministry’s teams where it should be.”

The Ministry of Public Health stressed “the need to preserve food safety,” stressing that it “will not tolerate perpetrators who are negligent in this sector and endanger people’s health.”
