It’s a small revolution in the European football landscape: on Wednesday, UEFA announced the return of standing places during Champions League, Europa League and Europa League Conference matches for the 2022/23 season. France, Germany and England will be the laboratory countries for this “observation program”, as UEFA calls it, pending a possible extension.
“It is a common sense measure. It had to be better adapted to the practices of the supporters”, welcomes Ronan Evain, executive director of the European network Football Supporters Europe (FSE), which has been campaigning for several years for the return of standing stands, like the Association national supporters (ANS) in France.
