Iranian international striker Sardar Azmoun has openly taken a stand against the Revolutionary Guards. He spoke out on social media in support of the protests currently taking place in his country following the death of a young woman following her arrest for an ill-fitting veil.
Sardar Azmoun, star striker of the Iranian national team, spoke on Instagram to oppose the leaders of his country of origin because of the lack of respect for women’s rights in the Gulf country, despite the likely consequences on his international career.
“The ultimate punishment is to be expelled from the national team, which is a small price to pay for even a single lock of hair from an Iranian woman. It will never be erased from our consciousness. I’m not afraid of being ousted. Shame on you for killing the people so easily and long live the women of Iran.” wrote the Bayer Leverkusen player in his story.
Iran, which will participate in the World Cup in Qatar, saw 3 other important players of its selection also come out against the government. Mehdi Taremi, Vahid Amiri and Karim Ansarifard thus supported the movement.
