For an “aligned approach”, Washington is discussing this Monday with its partners

The crisis in Afghanistan continues to be at the heart of international diplomacy. A videoconference organized by the United States will bring together foreign ministers and representatives from France, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, Turkey, Qatar, the European Union and NATO to discuss the next steps in this file.

“Participants will discuss an aligned approach for the days and weeks to come,” the State Department said in a statement on Sunday. Washington is organizing this meeting between “key partners”, on the eve of the day when the American army must leave Afghanistan after 20 years of war, and a little more than two weeks after the seizure of power by the Taliban.

The press release also specifies that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will speak after the meeting to take stock of recent US actions in Afghanistan. The meeting will indeed be held the day after the announcement by the United States of the destruction of a vehicle loaded with explosives during an airstrike in Kabul, a few hours after Joe Biden warned of a possible new attack.

Also on Monday will be held at the UN a meeting of the permanent members of the Security Council on the situation in Afghanistan.
