For Deus Ex’s 23rd anniversary, its most chaotic mod literally flips the script with a new mirror mode. – GamingTest.fr Video games PC and consoles

The Deus Ex Randomizer continues to offer more than just randomization.

It’s been 23 years since Ion Storm released Deus Ex, to date one of the best immersive simulations, RPGs, or heck, video games period. To celebrate, modder Die4Ever has released version 2.5 of the Deus Ex Randomizer, which introduces a new mirror mode as well as an easy-to-use installer.

The Deus Ex Randomizer already offers much more than its name suggests. In addition to mixing codes, items and enemies, it offers full compatibility with most of the mods in our guide to have the best Deus Ex experience on modern PCs. Revision, GMDX and Lay D Denton are all compatible, only the community update is not yet.

The Randomizer mod offers everything from light random changes to codes and item locations, to max mayhem meme runs like its “Serious Sam” mode, which has ten times more enemies than a typical run. from Deus Ex, but also bonus player health and damage resistance to compensate. I also really like challenge modes like “Ninja CP”, which limits you to using knives, swords, grenades, and pepper spray, but also gives you a combined speed and silence boost to put you in the mood of an underground warrior.

The Randomizer mod also includes Dark Souls-style death markers and contributes to Die4Ever’s Mastodon profile, which reports player activity, with its online functionality. The mod is now easier to install than ever thanks to an .exe file that detects other mods (if any) you have installed and adapts accordingly. You can start a new random round of the game from the main menu, or opt for the original experience with Die4Ever’s quality of life changes, bug fixes, and challenge constraints.

Mirror mode is a substantial addition to the Randomiser’s repertoire, which can be enabled on its own or in concert with other variables. A flipped version of a classic video game level is always a trippy way to revisit a familiar haunting – see also the Chop Goblins’ mirror mode or how the Wii version of Twilight Princess flipped all of Hyrule so Link was right-handed. I especially like how the level textures are reversed with Deus Ex Randomizer – check out that upside-down “Tonnochi Road” and other such signs in the Hong Kong part of the trailer.

I don’t know if Deus Ex’s Randomizer is a direct inspiration, but some of his ideas are starting to show up in other immersive sims. Deathloop and Amnesia: The Bunker both derived greater replay value from randomized door codes (and item locations in the latter example), while upcoming FPS Fortune’s Run took inspiration from a system online async similar to FromSoftware, but with Dark Souls-style messages instead of Dark Souls-style death markers. Imm sims are already a chaotic genre, so why not add a little more mad energy to it to spice things up?

Die4Ever continues to improve and expand the Deus Ex Randomizer, and you can check out v2.5 yourself on the modder’s GitHub page. You’ll also need a copy of Deus Ex, but you’re in luck if you don’t have one yet: one of the greatest games of all time is regularly available for less than a dollar on Steam and GOG.
