For Gérald Darmanin, Marine Le Pen is “the most dangerous person for the country”

According to Gérald Darmanin, Marine Le Pen is “the most dangerous person for the country”, and probably also, therefore, the most dangerous opponent for Emmanuel Macron. In an interview at Sunday newspaper released sunday january 23rd, the Minister of the Interior frontally attacks the president of the National Rally.

“When she says she is going to force judges to take mandatory criminal sanctions, it is not possible constitutionally: it would put an end to a cardinal principle of the separation of powers. When she talks about zero immigration, it’s not technically possible, nor desirable for the future of the nation. If ever Mme Le Pen arrives at the responsibilities, it will be national discord, then civil war. »

Asked about the proposals of another candidate on the right, Valérie Pécresse, in terms of video surveillance, Gérald Darmanin drives the point home: “The subject is not Valérie Pécresse but Marine Le Pen, who is the most dangerous and the most likely to qualify [pour le] second tour. »

A mixed record on safety

While the various right-wing candidates in the presidential election are trying to attack Emmanuel Macron on one of their favorite subjects, security, the Minister of the Interior is trying to defend the results of the five-year term. “Three major advances are to be credited to Emmanuel Macron, explains Gérald Darmanin. First, the unprecedented rearmament in the face of the terrorist threat. (…) Then, the president recreated muscle in security thanks to 10,000 additional police and gendarme posts. Finally, it has considerably reduced damage to property, burglaries, vehicle thefts…”

The tenant of Place Beauvau nevertheless recognizes certain weak points in the executive’s balance sheet: “Violence against persons holding public authority has been increasing for fifteen years. We must continue to work on this point. Domestic violence is increasing, by 50 to 60%, because we are now measuring reality. We have helped free speech. »
