During a radio interview, Professor Gilmer Avendaño, leader of the Trujillo teaching profession, was asked about the quality of education in Venezuela regarding the two years of the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the educational system process. In this regard he stated:
“The problem of educational quality evidently as a result of the pandemic has been getting worse, when I say this, let us remember, and the fellow educators who participated in this event in 2015 must remember the famous educational consultation promoted by the then Minister of Education , Héctor Rodríguez, current governor of the state of Miranda with the citizen president of the Republic”, he recalled.
Politicization and lack of training
“One hundred (100) weaknesses in education were found, among the most important was the demotivation of the teacher, first due to the treatment and politicization of education; second, because of the income, but in addition to that the infrastructure of the different educational units, they were the worst of the 28 thousand that exist in the country”, he described.
“Another element was the lack of training of the practicing teacher. The fact of establishing policies against the principles of sovereignty, of identity, that is, the elevation of some political figures that had nothing to do with the process and the political evolution of Venezuela, demonstrated and it is undeniable that definitively the quality of our students was through the floor “stick below”, he assured.
Quality of education is critical
“But in addition to that, this government threw meritocracy down the slide of indifference and rejection, there were already elements that determined that educational quality was in a critical situation and as a result of the pandemic, this situation actually worsened because our students and As educators, we were not prepared to work with new technologies. These technological tools are of vital importance, but we did not have the expertise to do so,” said Gilmer Avendaño.
