For sale: Lamborghini of historical significance

2023-04-25 13:14:08

All connoisseurs know what laymen may not know: the famous brand of supercars began its history in 1948, with the production of agricultural tractors. It was obviously in an Italy in full reconstruction after the war. An Italy that needed everything, and above all machines to work the land. It was at this time that Ferruccio Lamborghini began selling tractors, made from parts taken from abandoned military equipment. Then, little by little, with success, the company developed its own tractors, and it was not until 1958 that Lamborghini machines were fitted with… Lamborghini engines.

2R

This is a Lamborghini 2R, the marketing of which had started a year earlier. Its historical importance is very symbolic, but all the same: it is the brand’s very last new tractor, before it also launched into the production of sports cars. This 1962 copy has been completely stripped to benefit from a complete restoration. Some wearing parts have been replaced (fuel pump, hydraulic elements), but a maximum of original elements have been retained, including the carefully redone power take-off and the 40 bhp 2.2-litre 3-cylinder engine. Finally, it was coated in the color combination it had received from the factory. In short, it is like new and in perfect working order. This marvel will be auctioned during the spring sales organized by Mecum Auctions from May 12 to 20 in Indianapolis (USA). And how much is such a collector’s tractor worth? Mecum does not say so, but we found traces of an identical model sold in 2020 by Artcurial, at a price of €17,880.
