At the beginning of the week, Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg traveled to Iraq to officially reopen the Austrian embassy on Tuesday. Embassy operations were suspended in January 1991 during the Gulf War. An Austrian charge d’affaires was in Iraq for a short time; due to the poor security situation, Baghdad was later looked after by Amman, and the ambassadors stationed in Jordan were also accredited in Iraq.
