Forest fire in Ennstal, Upper Styria | SN.at

Emergency services were unable to extinguish a forest fire on an area of ​​around 500 square meters in the Grafenbergalm area near Haus im Ennstal in Upper Styria on Friday followingnoon. As the Styria State Police Department announced, a hiker noticed the fire and raised the alarm. The extinguishing work is scheduled to continue on Saturday.

The hiker discovered the flames around 2:30 p.m. in an area that was only accessible on foot. Three police helicopters and an army helicopter carried out extinguishing work until the evening hours, but the fire was not put out for the time being. When it became dark, the operation had to be stopped.

Around 60 volunteers from the Ramsau am Dachstein, Weißenbach bei Haus and Aigen im Ennstal volunteer fire departments have already been deployed. They will resume extinguishing the fire on Saturday morning and receive reinforcements. According to a release from the fire department, seven helicopters and all of the country’s aviation squadrons will arrive to provide support on Saturday.

The cause of the fire is still unclear. There were no injuries for the time being.
