Bentornato, trained by the Venezuelan José Francisco D’Angelo, finished in third place in the Boutique Saudi Derby GIII held today, February 24, 2024 at the King Abdulaziz racecourse, located in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The race was won by the Japanese Forever Young (Real Steel) who eliminated the driver of Irad Ortiz Jr. Book’em Danno (Bucchero) in full sentence. The Forever Young colt remains undefeated in 4 performances, as he had just won at three different racetracks in Japan, first a Maiden, then the JBC Nisai Yushun and his previous one the Zennipon Nisai Yushun on December 13.

The colt trained by Francisco D’Angelo, Bentornato (Valiant Minister), struggled throughout the course, alternating between first and second place, trying to break away at the entrance to the final stretch, but was caught first by the Ryan-trained Derek, Book’em Dano, and then by the Japanese Forever Young, who ran hard on the outside of the track with the riding of the Japanese Ryusel Sakai to reach the line and take the victory. Forever Young was trained by Yoshito Yakagi, for the silks of owner Susumu Fujita

The Bentornato colt now leaves his campaign with four wins and two third places in six performances, five of them in Gulfstream Park, Florida, United States. The Saudi Derby (G3) distributed $1,500,000 in prizes and was the fourth competition in the program of nine major races that form the framework for the day in which the best awarded event in the world will be held, the Saudi Cup (G1) of 2024 which will be the ninth and final event of the day at the King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
