The two former Montreal Canadiens, Tyler Toffoli and Sean Monahan, continue to perform well with the Winnipeg Jets.

Indeed, they were at the heart of the Jets’ 6-1 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.

Monahan posted two assists. In the case of Toffoli, he was complicit in Nikolaj Ehlers’ goal in the second period, before shaking the ropes himself twice.

Kyle Connor had previously opened the scoring in the first period. Logan Stanley and Vladislav Namestnikov were the other scorers for the Manitoba team.

Brendan Gaunce provided the only response for the Blue Jackets.

Thanks to this gain, the Jets are in first place in the Central section, tied with the Colorado Avalanche and the Dallas Stars.

The Penguins beat the Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings fell back into their old ways with a 6-3 loss to the Penguins in Pittsburgh.

The day before, the Michigan club had ended a streak of seven consecutive defeats. That said, two goals conceded in 23 seconds at the end of the first period suddenly put Derek Lalonde’s men in a very bad position.

Coming back from the first intermission, Michael Bunting gave the home favorites a 4-1 lead, while Lars Eller added more with 21 seconds left in the second period. Valtteri Puustinen, Sidney Crosby, Drew O’Connor and Reilly Smith are the others to shine the red light for the Penguins.

Lucas Raymond had put the two teams on an equal footing during the first period, and added another goal at the end of the match. Christian Fischer reduced the score to 4-2 during the second period.

Despite everything, the Red Wings are still eighth in the Eastern Conference. Crosby’s teammates, meanwhile, are 11th in the East, five points out of a playoff spot.

No problems for the Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes easily won against the Ottawa Senators by a score of 7 to 2.

The start of the meeting was, however, balanced. We had to wait until the final seconds of the second half to see the Hurricanes fly to victory. On a superb serve from Sebastian Aho, Seth Jarvis gave his team a 3-2 advantage.

The party definitely started in the third period for Carolina, which scored three goals, scored by Jake Guentzel, Dmitry Orlov (his second goal of the game) and Jalen Chatfield, in 4:11.

Evgeny Kuznetsov and Brendan Lemieux were the other scorers for the Raleigh-based team. For the Ottawa club, Tim Stutzle scored a superb goal in the second period. Thomas Chabot responded to the Hurricanes’ first success.
