Former F1 driver Nikita Mazepin will return to motorsport at next month’s Asian Le Mans Series.
Nikita Mazepin signed a multi-year deal with Haas F1 Team from 2021 after joining Force India and participating in Mercedes F1 tests.
However, Nikita Mazepin and her father Dmitry were placed on EU and UK sanctions lists after being fired from the Haas F1 team just before the 2022 season following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Nikita Mazepin, who raced in the Silk Rally in his native Russia last year, is now under contract to race in the Asian Le Mans Series in the United Arab Emirates in February.
Nikita Mazepin will share 99 Racing’s Oreca 07 LMP2 prototype with Ben Barnicourt and Felix Porteiro.
“I am delighted to be back in the Asian Le Mans Series,” said Nikita Mazepin.
“I hope that my teammates at 99 Racing will have great experiences in the sport that I love.”
For Nikita Mazepin, it will be the first challenge to the sports car competition.
Asian Le Mans 2023 kicks off with the 4 Hours of Dubai at the Dubai Autodrome on 11 February, followed by another race the following day. The season will come to an end next week with two four-hour races at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit.
