Colombo: The Parliament of Sri Lanka, which is in a state of political instability, has resigned again due to the worsening economic crisis. Basil Rajapaksa, the younger brother of former finance minister and president Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and former prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, has resigned from parliament.
Although he said his resignation was to pave the way for his party, the Sri Lankan People’s Front, to nominate someone else, there were indications that Basil was leaving parliament in the wake of a constitutional amendment that barred dual citizens from becoming ministers.
Basil, 71, the younger brother of Mahinda (76) and Godabaya (72), has been ousted from the finance ministry following the country’s financial crisis.
