London: Former Italian football player Gianluca Vialli (58) passed away. He was suffering from cancer. He died on Friday morning while undergoing treatment in a London hospital. The news of the star’s death was released by the Italian news agency ANSA.
Gianluca was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017 and was cured of the disease in 2020. But in 2021, cancer overcame him once more.
Gianluca started his career with the Italian club Sampdoria and following eight seasons he joined Juventus in 1992. He also took part in winning the Champions League title with the club. He joined Chelsea in 1996 and became the club’s player and manager in 1998. Led Chelsea to League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup triumphs. He also won the FA Cup for Chelsea in 2000.
He played 59 matches for Italy and scored 16 goals. Gianluca was on the support staff when his teammate Roberto Mancini became the coach of the Italian team. He was in the support staff when Italy won the Euro Cup in 2020.
