A day before the official inauguration of Dong-Hoon Han, the People Power Party’s nominee for chairman of the Emergency Response Committee, a report surfaced that Soo-Jeong Lee, a professor of criminal psychology at Kyonggi University, would join the emergency committee. Professor Lee denied this, saying, “I have not been offered a position on the emergency committee.”
On the 25th, Professor Lee stated this through Chosun.com, saying, “The report about joining the emergency committee is a misinformation.”
Earlier on this day, some media outlets reported that a nominee offered the position of emergency committee member to Professor Lee, who was selected as the People Power Party’s ‘No. 1 talent recruiter.’ Regarding this, there was an online interpretation such as, ‘By recruiting a criminal psychology expert as a former prosecutor as a committee member, it will have the effect of highlighting various crimes related to the Democratic Party.’
However, Professor Lee responded to the report by saying, “Only a few greetings were exchanged on social media saying, ‘Let’s do well in the future,’ but I was never officially offered the position of non-captain.” He then said, “As reports of him joining the emergency committee continue to spread, I think we need to request a correction to the report.”
It is known that former Minister Han is contemplating the appointment of emergency committee chairperson ahead of the appointment of emergency committee chairperson on the 26th, considering recommended experts, women, and youth.
According to Article 96 of the People Power Party Constitution, the emergency committee is composed of up to 15 people, including one chairman, the ex officio floor leader, and the policy committee chairman. A nominee can directly select a maximum of 12 non-representative committee members.
Meanwhile, Professor Lee completed registration as a preliminary candidate with the Yeongtong-gu Election Commission in Suwon City on the 13th. Currently, the active member of the Suwonjeong district is Park Gwang-on, a three-term member of the Democratic Party of Korea.
