On Sunday, former Secretary of State Eva De Bleeker was the victim of a road accident on the A12. As she was driving, a tire suddenly landed on the road near Meise. The Open Vld member then lost control of her Mercedes.
Fortunately, Eva De Bleeker was not seriously injured, but her car was badly damaged. “I seem to remember driving in the second lane to overtake slower cars. I immediately braked and switched to the first lane,” she told Het Laatste Nieuws. “The tire still collided head-on with the front left of my car,” added the Secretary of State.
This is where the airbags are triggered under the force of the impact. “I was a little freaked out by the smoke in the car, which later turned out to be from the airbags,” she says. “I immediately got out of the car and crawled behind the guardrails.”
This is where another driver comes to his rescue: “A car driving behind me stopped. The driver, Bilal, was very helpful. He placed the warning triangle and removed the tire from the road. A real hero.”
Balance sheet? “Apart from some abrasions due to the airbag, I luckily came out without injury. My car suffered major damage to the front. It would have either been much worse,” she explains.
