Formula 1 | De Vries was helped by Anthony Hamilton in 2012

Lewis Hamilton knows Nyck de Vries well, having worked with him for several years at Mercedes F1. The Dutchman is indeed a development and reserve driver for the Brackley team.

Hamilton was therefore delighted to learn that de Vries had his chance in F1, and reveals that he has known him for a very long time because his father, Anthony Hamilton, wanted to integrate him into the McLaren development program.

“Nyck is a very talented driver, I knew him when he was very young” explained the seven-time world champion. “When I was at McLaren, my father tried to help him come to F1.

“He is really valuable for our team, and he does a lot for us in the simulator and he is always positive. I was very happy to hear that he had the chance to drive a GP weekend. He deserves a place in Formula 1, in my opinion.”
