Fortaleza CEIF: A Rising Power in Colombian Football and the Economic Disparities in Women’s Soccer

Fortaleza CEIF has undoubtedly been one of the most striking teams in Colombian professional football, in terms of the football growth it has had in recent years, and the comical management that the Bogota team has carried out on social networks, which has catapulted it to have a visual range by fans of other teams in the BetPlay League.

Futbolred had the opportunity to interview the president of Fortaleza CEIF, Carlos Baratto, who has been in charge of leading the Bogotá team during its time in the second division and now in the BetPlay Dimayor League, where today the ‘amix’ team They have made things talk about how their return to the main category of Colombian professional football has been.

One of the topics that Baratto spoke about during the interview was about the transfer of Mayra Ramírez to Chelsea, who was also in the Bogotá team during 2019 before moving to the old continent, and the president of Fortaleza confessed how they received the news of the signing of the player and how much they received for that.

“I feel ambiguity about her achievements in the National Team, but I also feel helplessness at not being able to do more for women’s soccer due to the economic issue. If what exists in men’s soccer existed in women’s soccer, it would be magnificent, because Fortaleza was the club where Mayra made her debut and absolutely nothing corresponded to us. If it were men’s football, at least we would be receiving training rights, and that would be quite interesting money due to the fact that she is moving to a European club. In addition to also receiving through a solidarity mechanism, which would be 5% among the training clubs. In that case we would have received money for Mayra but unfortunately not,” said the president in Contraataque de Futbolred.

Faced with this situation that Fortaleza experienced with Mayra Ramírez, Carlos Baratto also referred to the problem that exists between men’s and women’s soccer.

“This harms the development of women’s soccer, because for example Deportivo Cali trained Linda Caicedo and the team did not receive a single peso from Real Madrid for the player. There are no forms of economic rights, of player loans,” she expressed.

It should be remembered that Mayra Ramírez, after Fortaleza CEIF, the forward went to Independiente Medellín and then came to Spanish football, where she was at Sporting Club de Huelva and Levante, and then arrived at Chelsea in 2024.

It is clear that comparing men’s football with women’s football there is a fairly large economic gap, where training teams do not receive anything for the transfer of a footballer from one club to another.
