Four Hills Tournament: Ryoyu Kobayashi wins record prize money – Eisenbichler in third place

No jumper has ever earned as much prize money as Ryoyu Kobayashi in the Four Hills Tournament.

Alone for the overall victory the Japanese collected 100,000 Swiss francs (approx. 96,000 euros). His three daily victories in Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and moved to Bischofshofen third jump earned him 10,000 Swiss francs each. Added to this are the four successes in the qualifications in Oberstdorf, Innsbruck and twice in Bischofshofen. There was another 3,200 Swiss francs on top of each other.

The 25-year-old was allowed to keep the winner’s check for the Innsbruck qualification, even if the elimination was declared invalid due to the cancellation of the Bergisel jump on the following day.

Incidentally, the record prize money does not come as a complete surprise: in the run-up to the 70th edition of the ski jumping hill classic in Germany and Austria, the organizers had already announced that the financial reward for the overall winner would be fivefold compared to previous years. Kamil Stoch only received 20,000 Swiss francs for his overall win in the previous season.

Four Hills Tournament: second overall Lindvik only fourth in the prize money ranking

The second best wage earner on the 2021/2022 tour is curiously the third Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud, who was able to collect a total of 25,200 Swiss francs. And it continues curiously: Markus Eisenbichler (21,200) is third in the overall ranking.

Tour second Marius Lindvik only finished fourth with 20,600 Swiss francs. The reason: The tour organizers only offered additional prize money for the overall victory, the rest was left empty-handed. Thus, only the prize money from the four competitions and the qualifications flow into the ranking list for all others, whereby only the winner is given a check.

In total, Kobayashi has earned CHF 211,900 in prize money so far in the current season. Second is Karl Geiger (86,750) ahead of Granerud (61,300).
