Fourth wave of COVID-19 reaches its peak and begins to decline: López-Gatell

Hugo Lopez-Gatell, undersecretary of Health, asserted that the fourth wave from COVID-19 in Mexico already arrived at your Maximum point and that a decline in the number of cases.

In the morning conference held in National Palace, Lopez-Gatell Ramirez pointed out that at the beginning of the week it opened with a reduction of 1 percent in the cases estimated by COVID-19, in addition to the fact that there are several signs that show that the fourth wave of coronavirus in the country begins to decline.

One piece of positive news regarding the epidemic: we opened the week already with a reduction, the estimated cases in the fifth week of the year fell by 31% and this is consistent with several other signs such as the reduction in hospital occupancy, the reduction in disability temporary work and the reduction of the percentage of positivity”, he said.

“There are several signs that show us that we have reached the peak of this fourth wave of COVID-19 in Mexico, dominated by ómicron and we are in the declining phase”, he pointed out.

“What is expected is that this phase of descent will continue in the following weeks, possibly with a speed similar to that of ascent. It’s definitely a positive sign.”

Mexico registered this Monday 12 thousand 521 new infections of COVID-19 to reach a total of 4 million 942 thousand 590 cases, in addition to 198 deaths to total 306 thousand 91 deaths, reported the Ministry of Health.

The 13,926 infections on Sunday and the 12,521 on Monday are the lowest numbers of new cases in the last 15 days, after Mexico reported days above 40,000 cases.

On January 19, he scored a historical record of 60,552, in addition to daily deaths above 300.

With these data, Mexico is the fourteenth country in the world in number of confirmed infections and is the fifth with the most deaths from this cause, behind the United States, Brazil, India and Russia, according to the Johns Hopkins University count.
