Hanebüchene’s justification confirms suspicions of censorship, to which ÖVP media minister Raab should not “bury her head in the sand”.

Vienna (OTS) “The broadcasting ban for the critical TV channelAuf1 in Germany is an attack on freedom of media, freedom of expression and information and therefore a scandal,” condemned FPÖ media spokesman and General Secretary NAbg today. Christian Hafenecker, MA, discussed the recent decision of the German “Commission for the Approval and Supervision of State Media Authorities (ZAK)”, according to which the broadcast ofAuf1 content in the program of the German TV station “Schwarz Rot Gold TV” no longer gives it its editorial independence and this represents a violation of the media treaty.

“Neither ÖVP Media Minister Raab nor the broadcasting authority KommAustria can simply bury their heads in the sand in view of this justification from the German media regulators, which seems like an outrageous pretext for censorship. If the mere broadcasting of content from a TV station from abroad in Germany threatens editorial independence and is therefore banned, many media consumers rightly ask themselves how, conversely, two large German media companies, for example, have a dominant position on the Austrian market can? The programs of these media companies are of course important for media diversity in Austria and the legal situation may be different in Germany, but here there are still double standards in terms of quality!” said Hafenecker, who warned against a “traffic light coalition”: “Because in In our neighboring country you can see every day, and also with the example of this broadcasting ban, what happens when authoritarian left-wing parties get involved – and that is exactly what must be prevented in our homeland, which the FPÖ stands for as the only stable force!

If media were to be banned or restricted, it is always important to take a particularly close look: “Because the broadest and most diverse media landscape possible is a foundation of democracy. And it is precisely in times like these that we see how the elite and powerful are trying to further restrict freedom of expression and information. Be it through the EU establishment with the ‘Media Freedom Act’ or the ‘Digital Services Act’, which threatens to create a ‘censorship instrument’, or through the black-green federal government, for example with the ‘Hate on the Internet Act’, which was only classified a week ago by the ECJ as ‘partially contrary to EU law’, and which aims to drastically restrict freedom of expression and communication,” explained the liberal media spokesman.
