Vienna (OTS) – “The amendment to the Psychotherapy Act is to be passed this year and psychotherapy established as an independent course of study. If the ÖVP and the Greens are to be believed, this important step should be sent for assessment before the end of this year. However, this amendment is long overdue and admittedly comes much too late. Because of the senseless and excessive corona measures, the need for psychotherapy has unfortunately increased enormously,” said the liberal health spokesman and chairman of the parliamentary health committee NAbg. Likes Gerhard Kaniak.
“In contrast, many important issues were left out in the announcements by the federal government. The law for general practitioners has been ‘negotiated’ since December 2022 (!) and has been approved by all factions, but has not yet been introduced by the government! The ÖVP and the Greens are unlikely to be able to deal with a broad consensus. The amendment to the Medical-Technical Services Act has also been a long time coming. Black-Green are once more negotiating behind closed doors in the ‘quiet room’, although here too there is more stagnation than movement,” says Kaniak.
All in all, one can confidently claim that the ÖVP and the Greens are completely missing out on the comprehensive health care reform that is so urgently needed, leaving lasting damage in their wake. “The Freedom Party’s six-point plan, on the other hand, shows how solutions can be brought to the prevailing chaos as quickly as possible. Accordingly, the continued employment of older doctors is to be made possible and additional training positions are to be created. A uniform nationwide scholarship system is also needed, as well as a significant increase in the number of study places available and more and more attractive training places in hospitals. However, it would also be important to include the doctors of choice in the cash register system with the lifting of the ban on double employment,” demanded Kaniak.
