Freedom’s defense spokesman calls for the long-announced end to this misappropriation of the armed forces
Vienna (OTS) – “The misappropriation of the Austrian Armed Forces must finally come to an end. The Ministry of the Interior must not transfer its own tasks to our army, even if these are unpleasant,” commented the NABg. Volker Reifenberger, FPÖ defense spokesman and chairman of the State Defense Committee, highlighted the fact that the embassy guarding by the Federal Army has been extended until March 2024. Reifenberger saw the ÖVP-led Interior Ministry as defaulting, which was only now beginning to set up its own property protection unit. This should have been done in recent years.
In general, the Federal Army should be able to concentrate on its core tasks again: “The permanent assistance missions are ruining our Federal Army. Both the non-military assistance missions during the Corona period, such as temperature measurements, ‘contact tracing’ or packing for the post office, as well as the assistance mission at the border that has been going on for decades, are at the expense of training and thus military national defense; in reality, they are an abuse of the Austrian Federal Army,” emphasized FPÖ defense spokesman Reifenberger, who also made it clear that “the assistance provided by the Federal Army can only be a temporary measure and must not become a permanent situation.”
