FPÖ – Zanger: Preventive measures in the field of cybercrime to protect the often older group of victims is an important topic for the future | Liberal Parliament Club

Finding competent staff with a salary in the public sector will be the greatest challenge

Vienna (OTS) The issue of Internet crime is one of the central and most important challenges for the future. Those most affected are primarily older people, who find it very difficult to distinguish whether a message is genuine or fraudulent and, because of their good faith, often quickly fall for such fraudsters,” said FPÖ Court of Auditors spokesman NAbg. Wolfgang Zanger in his speech today on the report by the Court of Auditors on the prevention and fight against cybercrime in the National Council. This must be counteracted by all means preventively.

According to the Court of Auditors’ report, Internet crimes would increase exponentially. The offenses in 2016 had doubled compared to 2019 to around 28,400 cases. “In its report, the Court of Auditors primarily criticizes deficiencies in terms of effective control measures and the lack of coordinated strategy between the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Justice. The Court of Auditors also saw deficiencies in terms of appropriate organizational, infrastructural and personnel conditions, in terms of training and further education concepts and the implementation of an early warning system as well as permanently available teams,” explained Zanger.

Prevention is important, but “you also need the appropriate staff to implement the appropriate preventive measures such as lectures”. “I see the greatest challenge in finding competent staff. The perpetrators are almost always one step ahead and therefore the corresponding screws, such as remuneration, have to be turned here too. The salary for these specialists in the public sector will never be as high as is usual in the IT industry on the ‘free market’. Therefore, I see the great challenge for the future here, whereby we must do everything we can to protect the particularly affected group of victims, the elderly.
