Mysterious burglars are rampant in western Paris using a method described as unprecedented: attacking locks with acid. The police have no clue yet to unmask them.

These thieves sneak into homes by introducing a corrosive liquid into the cylinder locks. “This product, which could be acid or liquid nitrogen, causes deterioration of the closing system and allows criminals to open by sliding a tool inside without damaging the door”, Explain a policeman at the “Parisien”. Behind them, these thugs leave only a trace of a yellow or orange liquid.

These burglars have been active since July in Hauts-de-Seine and Yvelines. In barely two months, they have cracked down fifty times, according to the French daily. Mainly in accommodation left empty during the holidays.

Discreet and organized

These criminals, described as discreet and very organized, are only interested in money and jewelry. Their loot varies between around 5,000 and 30,000 euros for each intrusion.

For the moment, the investigators do not really have a track to go back to these mysterious acid burglars. Fingerprints and genetic traces are sought at the scene of their looting. But if they don’t find any matches in the files, it won’t lead to arrests.

It is specified that most burglars are arrested in flagrante delicto, for example following a neighborhood alert. Or through CCTV cameras. As it stands, the police therefore seem above all to hope that these thugs will one day make a mistake.
