France can boast of being on at least one world podium: that of the greatest number of millionaire residents. According to a ranking drawn up by Credit Suisse and published by UBS (which bought the banking establishment this year), with 2,821,000 inhabitants who have a fortune of more than one million dollars in 2022 (i.e. 4.6% of millionaires in the world), France ranks third behind the United States and China. The latter have respectively 22,710,000 and 6,231,000 millionaires.
On the other hand, the richest millionaires are not necessarily in France. If people with between one and five million dollars are 2,628,568 in France, the largest fortunes exceeding 500 million are more in Germany, Russia or India. They are all the same 82 to live in France. The United States and China are still in the lead for this category of very wealthy people.
If poverty is increasing in the world, it would seem that so is wealth. There are thus more than 51 million people who have between one and five million dollars and more than 7,000 who have more than 500 million dollars. More than 24% of the latter reside in the United States and 22% are in Europe.
