His former spouse and friend, Marie Carmen, made the announcement on Facebook Monday morning.
“I have the terrible regret to announce the death of my precious friend François Jean. My man, my brother, my love. His wife, Mélissa asked me to let you know, ”she wrote on her page.
The news was then confirmed in the afternoon by means of a press release, in which his wife Mélissa Nadeau thanked the people who sent him expressions of affection.
The family does not wish to make any further comment on this subject at this time.
The BB Madness of the 1990s
François Jean was a drummer in the group Les BB with Patrick Bourgeois, died of cancer in 2017, and Alain Lapointe.
Formed in the late 1980s under the name Les Beaux Blonds, the trio renamed themselves Les BB in 1989, releasing an eponymous album.
Then the band launched the albums Snob, in 1991, which sold more than 300,000 copies; A night with the BBs and 1993; et 3 in 1994.
The group enjoyed immense popularity in Quebec in the early 1990s, notably thanks to the successes Loulou, You are in the moon, Be careful, Alone in battle or Give me my chance before separating in 1994.
The trio has twice won the Félix for Group of the Year at the ADISQ gala, in 1990 and in 1992.
In 2004, Les BB signed their comeback with the album Bonheur Facile, which will be followed by two other albums: All successes and 2007 et Universe, in 2011.
A dispute with Patrick Bourgeois
In 2015, François Jean took legal action against Patrick Bourgeois because of a financial dispute related to the album. Universe.
That same year, Alain Lapointe and Patrick Bourgeois returned to the stage without François Jean, giving several shows, including a concert celebrating the 25th anniversary of the BBs at what was then called the FrancoFolies de Montréal.
After the death of singer Patrick Bourgeois in 2017, François Jean had put his differences to the date and had underlined, in an interview with Everybody talks about it, that it was above all
Thanks to Patrick’s talent he was able to realize his dream of making music.
In January 2018, Alain Lapointe mentioned the possibility of a new BB tour in the years to come in an interview with The Canadian Press. He specified that Ludovick Bourgeois, the son of Patrick Bourgeois who had himself become an artist, could take the place of his late father.
This tour never saw the light of day. However, that year, Alain Lapointe and Ludovick Bourgeois paid a musical tribute to Patrick Bourgeois, again without François Jean, but with Stéphane Rousseau, during the show Show de Rousseau animated by the latter.
Tributes on social networks
Some public figures have already reacted on social networks to the death of the artist. Patrick Bourgeois’s son, singer Ludovick Bourgeois, paid tribute to the one who accompanied his father during the BB era.

The Liberal MP for Verdun, Isabelle Melançon, also shared her sadness over the departure of François Jean.

Host and author Varda Étienne said she was sorry for the news. She writes that the BB drummer was
