New York – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas confirmed that the State of Palestine will continue its endeavor to obtain full membership in the United Nations following the majority of the General Assembly voted in favor of the decision to adopt Palestine as a full member.
Abbas said in a statement reported by the Palestinian News Agency, Wafa, that the resolution “expresses the international consensus in isolating the occupation, its crimes, and its serious violations of international legitimacy.”
He stressed that “this sweeping international vote in favor of the right of the Palestinian people is conclusive evidence that the world stands united behind the values of truth, justice, freedom and peace that the Palestinian cause represents, and once morest the continuing crimes of the occupation once morest the Palestinian people, their land and their sanctities.”
The President stressed that “this UN resolution will support the efforts of the State of Palestine in the UN Security Council to re-vote on full membership,” calling on the US administration to “rescind its biased support in favor of the Israeli occupation” and refrain from using the veto.
He said, “Achieving peace, security and stability in our region and the world depends on the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions, ending the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine, and recognizing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
Today, Friday, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring the State of Palestine’s eligibility for full membership in the United Nations, and recommends that the Security Council reconsider this issue positively.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz launched a major attack on the United Nations following the General Assembly issued the resolution.
