The Phoenix Suns have found a new head coach. According to information from US media, Frank Vogel is set to succeed Monty Williams. The two sides are said to have agreed on a five-year deal that should bring Vogel $31 million.
As the US broadcaster ESPN reported, Nick Nurse is said to have been a candidate for coaching the Suns. Nurse will coach the Philadelphia 76ers from now on.
The Suns parted ways with Williams in mid-May after being eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets. After signing star player Kevin Durant, the Suns had harbored championship ambitions. For Williams, it’s now on with the Detroit Pistons.
Vogel had last trained the Los Angeles Lakers around superstar LeBron James from 2019 to 2022 and celebrated the title with the traditional club in 2020. The 49-year-old was previously the head coach of the Orlando Magic and Indiana Pacers.
