Franz Beckenbauer has canceled a meeting of the 1990 world champions this weekend. This is reported by “Bild”, citing his wife Heidi. When she was greeted, she said: “Unfortunately, Franz cannot be there for health reasons. It would just be too much for him.”
According to “Bild”, 19 of the 22 players attended the meeting at Chiemsee. Only Jürgen Kohler, Günter Hermann and Bodo Ilgner were missing. In their place, some world champions from 1974 got involved. Sepp Maier, Berti Vogts and Rainer Bonhof can be seen in the pictures.
The world champions spent the whole weekend together at Lake Chiemsee and are said to have sung at the gala evening. Lothar Matthäus told the “Bild”: “Franz Beckenbauer created this unique cohesion in this team. No one else. We owe everything to him!”
