Fraudulent auctions detected on Facebook

Mexico City.- During the first semester of 2022, the Institute to Return the Stolen to the People detected and reported 44 false web page sites posing as official sites, as well as 14 profiles on social networks of scammers, whose purpose is to defraud, alerted this unit .

Given the increase in this type of fraud, the Institute indicated that interested parties who wish to participate in any of the agency’s auctions should do so only through the link auctions.indep.gob.mx and not be deceived by cybercriminals. whose crimes are on the rise.

He specified that, at the moment, he has sent 1,830 official letters to 26 states in the country to alert municipalities and public universities about this situation.

“The Institute to Return the Stolen to the People warns society in general not to be surprised by the growing increase in online scammers who only seek to pass themselves off as official Internet domains and institutional social network profiles to ‘swindle’ both people physical, as well as institutions, whether from state, municipal governments or educational institutions, when carrying out fraudulent operations of alleged donations, as well as the purchase and sale of movable and immovable property,” the agency said in a statement.

He stressed that participants who intend to access the Institute’s web page must click on the correct website whose ending is gob.mx/indep, and verify the veracity of the link in the URL, so as not to fall into the deception of the users. cyber criminals, since the links that link to web pages can also be received in email messages, text messages or WhatsApp, where the user is asked to click on them.

With this method, on many occasions, instead of asking for personal data from the user, they get the victim to install some type of ‘malware’ on their device, which facilitates fraud, he warned.

In the event that someone has been the victim of any fraudulent operation, he urged them to report the incident to the prosecutor’s office closest to their home and, at the same time, report the incident to the following institutional emails: [email protected], jrosales @indep.gob.mx and [email protected].
