The Financial Times has launched a free weekly newsletter on Substack, dedicated to coverage of markets and finance. The newsletter, titled FT Alphaville, began distribution on Friday lunchtimes (UK time) starting November 18, 2025, according to a press release from the FT.

The initiative aims to broaden the reach of FT Alphaville, the FT’s existing markets and finance blog, particularly among younger readers. Sarah Ebner, director of editorial growth and engagement at the FT, stated the launch is intended to engage a demographic already active on the Substack platform. “We recognize from our research that Alphaville strongly resonates with this group, and we hope to reach more of them by launching on a platform where we know they already are,” Ebner said.

The newsletter will compile commentary on the week’s events, links to recent Alphaville blog posts, data visualizations, research, previews of upcoming Alphaville events, and notable charts. According to FT Alphaville editor Robin Wigglesworth, the newsletter is designed for “smart, open-minded readers who are curious about markets, economics, and the geeky mechanics of finance, even if they don’t work in those fields.” Wigglesworth described FT Alphaville as a “pretty weird, unique place” and expressed hope that its character will translate to the Substack environment.

FT Alphaville was originally established in 2006 as a resource for financial market professionals. The content, however, has evolved to appeal to a broader audience interested in financial topics. The newsletter will supplement the existing free content available on FT.com, offering another avenue for readers to access the Alphaville team’s reporting. Louis Ashworth joined the Alphaville team in September 2022, and Bryce Elder is a newsletter anchor.

Access to FT Alphaville’s blog is currently free with registration on FT.com, requiring only an email address and selection of the “free limited access” option. Readers can also follow Alphaville on social media and set up story alerts through a myFT profile. The team can be contacted directly at [email protected] or individually via [email protected].
