As of January 1, residents of the Le Mans metropolitan area can now benefit from free composters. This is a measure from the Metropolis which wants to encourage more of the population to adopt this ecological and environmentally friendly method to sort your table and kitchen waste.
Le Mans Métropole has distributed composters since 2002, but until now they were payingwith help from the community which represented 30 to 40% of the price of the composter. More than 9,000 homes in the metropolitan area are already equippedbut this only represents, in fact, 12% of housing, and fewer and fewer families were tempted in recent years.
With this free service, the Le Mans Metropolis therefore hopes to distribute more composters, very useful tools in sorting bio-waste which includes many things : egg shells, peelings, leftover fruit and vegetables, coffee grounds, tea bags, and of course green waste, such as wilted flowers or even garden plants…
How to get your composter?
You will have the choice between composters or worm composters, with earthworms and earthworms, which have the advantage of making compost more quickly. Distribution is limited to one composter or worm composter per household. Proof of address will be required.
Distributions will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday mornings, as well as Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, at the Cleanliness department reception (206 rue de l’Angevinière, 72100 Le Mans). You need to make an appointment by calling 02 43 47 47 60.
