The mobile operator Free, a subsidiary of the French group Iliad, has just been fined 300,000 euros for breaches of the regulations on the use of data after customers complained of difficulties in accessing and controlling information about them.
The National Commission for Computing and Liberties (CNIL) considers that its checks have revealed “several shortcomings”relating in particular to “right of access and (to) the right of erasure”as well as the “data security”.
The CNIL conducted a two-year investigation following complaints filed in 2019 by Free customers.
The CNIL also criticizes the operator for “low robustness” and storing and transmitting passwords in the clear.
The CNIL specified that a daily penalty of 500 euros will be added if Free fails to pay the fine within three months.
