The Ministry of Health now offers free testing for type A streptococcus and colorectal cancer at its local service points.

The local service points in Brossard and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu are expanding their activities to add screening tests for type A streptococcus and colorectal cancer.

These new services are offered free of charge to targeted customers, without having to first obtain a medical request. Appointments are available now on the Clicsanté.ca portal.

Testing for type A streptococcus

Type A streptococcus screening is for people aged three and over who are experiencing a severe sore throat, fever, difficulty swallowing or any other symptoms related to pharyngitis or tonsillitis. If the screening carried out by the nurse turns out to be positive, the necessary information will be given to the user to enable them to obtain the appropriate medication from the pharmacist.

Colorectal cancer screening

Colorectal cancer screening is offered to clients aged 50 to 74. During the consultation, the nurse first assesses the person’s eligibility. Subsequently, a collection kit to take at home is given to the patient, if their state of health requires it. It is recommended that people aged 50 to 74 be screened for colorectal cancer every two years, before symptoms appear. Remember that in Montérégie-Centre, local service points are located in the following locations:
